Sports & Leisure
LUX* Le Morne is brimful of exciting things to do. Take to the sea with our dynamic range of complimentary water sports or explore the island with a number of leisurely and adrenalin-fuelled activities. The island is yours to explore.
Water Sports
All our island homes are cradled by the Indian Ocean, and our resorts are set on stunning lagoons teaming with life. Not only they invite languid contemplation and provide perfect backgrounds for your holiday pictures, but their warm translucent waters will soon become your favourite playground! Our resorts in Mauritius are the perfect place for your kids to take to the water for the first time, as the lagoons are shallow and child-friendly, and our teams are always willing to tell you stories about the creatures you'll encounter and teach the whole family a trick or two.
Diving
Dive into the Great Blue at LUX* Island Resorts
Why limit your LUX* holiday experience to the wonders of the Mauritian landscape? The underwater world here is just as rich, fascinating and entertaining! Between LUX* Me Spa pampering moments, 'ici' ice-cream tastings, long sun-soaking hours on the beach and yoga sessions at sunset, make time to explore the warm transparent waters surrounding the island. And if you've never tried diving, perhaps this is the right time to offer yourself some courses-who knows, you might discover a new passion!
Mauritius is a superb location for diving all year round, with excellent visibility under water (up to 40 meters) and a pleasant constant water temperature of around 25° C. Everyone can have a great diving experience, as there are shallow, comfortable dive sites for beginners, as well as walls, rock formations, caverns and wrecks for the more advanced.
More Info
The range of diving sites is amazing: coral reefs abounding in life, endless drops decorated with sumptuous gorgonian fans, sceneries with an imposing architecture made of arches, tunnels and mysterious caves, rusted shipwrecks that could conceal long lost treasures…
The attractive sites can be found all around the island, rather exclusively behind the coral reefs.
There are three main diving areas: the South-West (from Le Morne to Flic en Flac), the North-West (from Tombeau Bay to the islands off the north coast) and the East (from Belle Mare to Mahebourg). The southern coast is not suitable for diving due to a rough and dangerous sea. All of the LUX* Resorts in Mauritius can offer you diving services. Please contact your selected LUX* resort for more information.
DIVING IN THE SOUTH-WEST: LUX* LE MORNE
Our diving team at LUX* Le Morne will lead you to some of the most interesting dive spots in the south-west waters:
AQUARIUM / LA COLLINE (5-18m):Ideal dives for beginners. One can admire the vibrant life of the reef between 5 and 18 meters. This spot is fascinating especially for macro-photographers. The "Easy-dive"!
ST. JACQUES (16-32m):This is one of the most famous dives in Mauritius. Drift dive through the reef. Grey reef sharks, bull sharks, eagle rays, stingrays, turtles... everything a diver wishes for. Don't miss it!
LA GORGONNE (14-35m):This spot features a huge gorgonia (over 3 metres in diameter) on a 20 metres wall. Often, curious blue fin trevallies accompany the divers.
LA CHEMINEE (14 to 27m):This region is richly populated with fish, in particular stone fish, scorpion fish, lion fish and fusiliers. A 7 metres-long chimney is part of the excitement of this dive.
CASIERS (28-32m): The bottom is flat and slopes slightly. Nevertheless the coral growth and the fish variety are considerable. The characteristic of this spot though, is the frequent presence of game fish (tuna, wahoo and barracudas).
LA MURENE (15-24m): In a 5 metres wall lives Barbara, a lovely giant moray (2 metres) who is accustomed to divers. Additionally, crayfish, groupers and snappers bring colour to this dive.
WHITE TIP (18-32m): This site (like St. Jaques) is situated on the untouched Mauritian south coast, and is therefore very rich in fish: barracudas, trevallies, groupers, lion fish, crayfish, morays...
HOI SIONG (WRECK) (16-28m):This is our "new" wreck! Scuttled in February 2003 by the Mauritius Marine Conservation Society in order to create an artificial reef, this beautiful wreck has already been colonised by an enormous variety of fish. Here you can watch the predators, like kingfish, tuna and rainbow runners, chase thousands of small fish.
Diving conditions: Water temperatures range from 22° C in winter (5mm wetsuit) to 28° C in summer (3mm wetsuit). Average visibility: 20 to 25 meters.
There is no typical "diving season". Beautiful conditions exist all year round but the visibility can, of course, be affected by waves, plankton, tides or rain.
Kitesurfing
If you're craving for some adrenalin to spice up your tropical holiday, then kitesurfing is definitely the thing to do! This rather new adventure sport is the coolest combination of extreme sports that one can practice on the water: it involves pure mastery of the winds that propel the board at amazing speed over turquoise lagoons, and breath-taking acrobatics. It's exciting for you, and a never-ending source of gasps from less adventurous onlookers sipping cocktails on the beach. So brilliant days out on the water, a great workout, a proper golden tan and a huge base of new fans back at the resort, check out Flight!
Catamaran cruises
Take to the blue waters of the Indian Ocean, for a magical day of exploration, relaxation and fun water activities on board of a fleet of sleek, impressive and fully equipped catamarans.
You'll get to see the island from the waves, all gorgeous greenery and imposing mountain peaks; you'll lounge about, swaying to the rhythms of sega or your own ipod soundtrack; you'll have a fabulous meal on board, and plenty of time to swim, snorkel and otherwise frolic in perfect, warm, transparent tropical waters. Whether you want a day of family fun, a leisurely search for new fish to spy through your snorkel mask, or a romantic outing with your soul mate, there is a choice and a cruise for everyone. Cruises are available all around the island, and every coast has its wonders and its fascination.
The south west of Mauritius is definitely one of the most impressive and untouched coasts, with a varied landscape alternating endless forests, lush mangroves, sleepy fishing villages, and silky sugarcane fields, on a background of towering mountain peaks. It also has some of the most lagoons and beaches, and unparalleled diving and snorkelling spots.
We think it's very memorable, so we currently recommend the cruises below, allowing all clients of LUX* Resorts to discover the tranquil west coast.
Fishing
Be game for an exhilarating adventure out in the open ocean! All guests of the LUX* resorts in Mauritius can now experience the thrill of the big catch, with a comprehensive big game fishing service, including return transfers from our resorts to the boat pick-up spot. Let the fun begin!
If the terms 'big game fishing' have you picturing anglers heading out into the middle of the ocean and catching monster fish, you are not far off the mark. Big game fishing is all about reelin' in some of the biggest fish in the ocean.
Why go big game fishing? Because it's fun! Catching a big game fish, especially a larger-than-normal foe, is one of the most exhilarating adventures you could have. Watching that marlin jump for the first time will get anyone's heart racing, while seeing the teeth of a mako shark up close will leave you speechless.
Big game fishing trips are also a lot of fun because you never know what exactly is lurking underneath your boat, and the anticipation of what may strike your line is almost as exciting as catching a fish. Even if you don't catch that monster you're looking for, it's still more than likely you'll catch all kinds of accidental species that are still fun to reel in.
The pursuit of getting the biggest fish you can find is not limited to personal glory or fishing tournaments. Big game fishing world records are hallowed accomplishments that will have your name forever enshrined next to a specific species - not too shabby a legacy. This is especially true for species notoriously hard to set a record for.
Mauritius is renowned for being one of the best big game fishing destinations worldwide, and LUX* Resorts has partnered with one of the most reputable big game fishing companies in Mauritius to offer you the fishing experience of a lifetime.
Swimming with Dolphins
Swimming with wild dolphins experience at LUX* Resorts
You want a holiday rich in experiences, fun and memories. We entirely sympathize with that wish, so we're inviting you on an amazing journey that will stay with you forever: going out on a sunny morning to swim with wild dolphins.
Human fascination with these intelligent creatures is as old as humanity itself, and all those who have experienced a close encounter with them will carry the memory of those moments in their hearts forever.
Many operators around the planet will offer you dolphin interactions, but few will involve truly wild dolphins, in their natural habitat, and even fewer will show more consideration for the dolphins than our partners in Mauritius do.
One of the best spots around the island to observe wild dolphin behaviour and interact with them is on the west coast, in the bays of Black River and Tamarin, where the pods come to play, socialize and feed, attracted by the waters teaming with their favourite fishy breakfast. However, no matter where your LUX* resort is located on the island, we strongly encourage you to take this trip: it's well worth an early morning, and after all, there will always be a good Café LUX* flat white to kick-start your engines!
You can see the dolphins throughout the morning, but the specialized swimming with dolphins cruises only operate between 7 am and 8:30 am. By 10:30, the dolphins start to move beyond the reef to hunt for schooling fish. The two species you will meet during this cruise are spinner dolphins and bottlenose dolphins.
Complimentary activities
Snorkelling: why limit yourself to meeting the locals only on dry ground? You only need to step off the beach and plunge your head under the turquoise lagoon: you'll get to meet a whole new kettle of fish! The south-west coast of Mauritius has lagoons rich in wildlife, and ours is no exception. Once you explored the shoreline, our regular boats can take you to special spots along the reef for even more fascinating encounters.
Kayaks:if you're not keen on windsurfing or water skiing, how about trying sea kayaking? It's easy to learn and do, and it can work off some of the Island Kitchen goodies. Not to mention that it will grant you a whole new perspective to admire the unique Morne Mountain in all its glory!
Water skiing:if you wish to learn how to water-ski, trust our kind instructors to turn you into a pro fairly quickly. If you're already a master, just come and have some fun!
Pedal boats:a leisurely exploration of the lagoon, just a different spot for some sun and breeze soaking. Ideal for taking the kids along!

Glass-bottom boat trips:if donning a plastic mask and breathing through a tube is not your thing, take a ride in our glass-bottom boats to have a glimpse of the underwater world.

Pool: LUX* Le Morne features four swimming pools, and once you've tried all of them, there's always the lagoon!
